Adamek wins in front of Polish crowd

On February 6, 2010 in Newark, NJ's Prudential Center in front of over 10,000 spectators, the quick-rising Polish heavyweight boxer, Tomasz 'Goral' Adamek defended his IBF International Heavyweight Title with a victory by unanimous decision against heavyweight challenger Jason 'Big Six' Estrada. The official scores were 115-113, 116-112 and 118-110, all in favor of Adamek.

The arena was filled with thousands of cheering fans waving the Polish flags and wearing red and white in support of the much-favored fighter. The fact that the fight was taking place in Adamek's home state of New Jersey did not discourage Estrada, but rather fueled his determination to go for the title with greater fervor than he's ever had before. However, even though Estrada had a strong start, round after round that determination and drive began to ebb away as he no longer attacked Adamek with such hardening blows but rather gave away rounds by simply allowing Adamek to attack him.

After the fight, Estrada was visibly upset about his loss. “Yeah I’m angry. I fought my a__ off. I trained harder than I ever have," said Estrada. "I was in the best shape I’ve ever been in. People talked about me possibly running out of gas, but I never did. All he (Adamek) did was run.”

Adamek, happy with this win over Estrada feels that soon he will be able to fight other heavyweight opponents like David Haye and Wladimir Klitschko. But before he can even consider this a possibility, Adamek most likely will face heavyweight title-holder, Chris Arreola on April 24. Adamek believes that if he was able to defeat Estrada, his is confident that he will outmaneuver and outsmart Arreola in the ring if given the chance: “I have couple of words for those who are saying that I cannot fight Arreola because he is a much better puncher than Estrada. First of all every fight is different, and anyone who knows about boxing can say “Estrada hit him, but Arreola will do the same, and harder”. We don’t know that. Maybe it will be easier for me to avoid punches from Arreola, and maybe it will be easier for me to hit him! We just don’t know, but won’t it be interesting to see…“
